Help & how it works

This Is Basketball (TIB) is a basketball stats platform: scores, box scores, and efficiency metrics for every game we track — Belgian competitions (men, women, youth, and the national teams), European and international tournaments, and more. Much of it is historicaltoo, so you can dig back through past seasons, not just today’s results.

You can browse everything without an account. Signing up (free) adds personal touches — following your teams, favourites, and game alerts — but it’s never required to read the stats.

There are three quick ways to get to what you want, from the bar at the top of every page:

• Competitions menu— a full directory of leagues, split into Belgium (senior men, senior women, youth, national team) and International (European championships, World Cup, club leagues, NBA & more). Each league opens to its standings, schedule, and teams.
• Games, Teams, Players — the top-level lists. Games is the schedule/results feed, Teams and Players are searchable directories.
• Search — the search box in the header jumps straight to any team, player, or game as you type.

Ask a question (AI search)

On the home page you can also ask in plain language— things like “top scorers in TDM1 this season” or “how did the U18 national team do?” — and get a direct answer built from the live data, with links to the relevant pages.

Every game has its own page. At the top you get the score header— the two teams, the final (or live) score, records, quarter-by-quarter breakdown, and the venue. What’s below depends on whether the game is upcoming, live, or finished, shown as tabs:

• Preview (upcoming games) — a season-form comparison of the two teams, players to watch, the all-time head-to-head record, and game info (date, venue, officials). If a broadcaster is streaming it, a “Watch live” link appears.
• Gamecast(live & finished) — the story of the game: a lead tracker, a shot chart, shooting-percentage donuts, the game leaders, and the season series against this opponent.
• Box Score — the full per-player stat table for each team (see the next section for what the columns mean).
• Play-by-Play — the running log of what happened, possession by possession, where we have it.

Missing a number? A dash (–) or a 0means we don’t have that stat for that game — some older or lower-division games only have a final score, not a full box score.

The box-score columns are the standard ones: MIN minutes, PTS points, FG / 3PT / FT shooting (made–attempted), OREB/DREB/REB rebounds, AST assists, STL steals, BLK blocks, TO turnovers, PF fouls, and +/- plus-minus.

Three efficiency ratings

The last columns are single-number summaries of a performance. We show three so you can compare:

• FIBA EFF and PIR— the familiar reference ratings you’ll know from elsewhere. Shown muted, for context.
• TIB EFF — our own TIB Efficiency Rating, shown in orange. It weights the things that actually swing games and factors in the level of competition, so a big night in a top league counts for more than the same line in a weaker one. It’s what we sort leaders by. Read how TIB EFF is built →

Numbers line up in neat columns and the winner’s score glows orange — orange throughout the site means “this is the standout”.

Standings live on each league page — win/loss records, ranking, and form. Leaderboards rank players across a league or season by a stat (points, rebounds, assists, and TIB EFF). Open a league and use its tabs to switch between standings, schedule, teams, and leaders.

Every player and team has a rich profile.

• Player pages — game log, per-game averages, best and worst games, a recent-form trend, a consistency rating, career and season totals, and an Awards & Achievementscard where relevant. Photos appear where we have them; otherwise you’ll see the player’s initials.
• Team pages— record, schedule and results, the roster, team leaders, and a “did-you-know” insights strip. The star badge marks a team you follow.

A career total on this site is built from one of two things, and it’s worth knowing which — because it explains why our number and someone else’s can differ.

• Game by game. Where we hold the box score of every game, the career figure is simply those games added up. This is the better kind: each line can be checked against a scoreboard, and it includes the play-offs.
• Season totals. For older seasons nobody published a game-by-game box score, so all that survives is an end-of-season line. Those still count toward a career total, and they show in their own table on the player page.

A season is only ever counted once. Where both exist for the same competition and season, the game-by-game figure is used and the recorded season total is shown separately, marked as superseded. We put the superseded number on the page rather than hiding it, because the gap between the two is usually informative: our older recorded totals are regular season only, so a season with a deep play-off run reads lower there than in the game log above it.

Two things we know are missing.We hold no box scores at all for European club competition (EuroLeague, EuroCup, Champions League and the rest), and coverage of Belgian seasons before about 2015 is partial. So a player who had a long European career will read low here against a record that counts those games. We’re filling those in.

A dash means not recorded— not zero. A player showing no wins for a season didn’t lose every game; nobody wrote the record down.

If you spot a number that looks wrong, please tell us. Every correction on this page so far started with somebody comparing us against their own records and saying so.

Games in progress update automatically— the score header, quarter scores, and (for many games) the live box score refresh on their own while you watch, no reload needed. Live games are flagged across the site (home page, game lists, and the game page itself) so they’re easy to spot.

When you’re signed in, tap the star on any league, team, or player to follow it. Your follows power a personalised menu and your dashboard, so your teams are always one tap away. Your favourite leagues also surface at the top of the Competitions menu.

Want a nudge when something happens? Tap “Notify me”on a game, a league, or a team page to turn on push notifications. You’ll then get alerts for that game / competition / team. You don’t need an account to turn them on, but signing in lets you fine-tune them.

What you’ll get

Alerts are deliberately throttled — enough to keep you in the loop, never a flood:

• Tip-off — the game goes live.
• Quarter & halftime — end of the 1st, halftime, end of the 3rd, overtime.
• Close finish — one heads-up when it’s tight late in the 4th or overtime.
• Lead changes — when the lead flips.
• Final score — the result when it ends.

Choosing what you receive

Signed-in users can switch any of those categories on or off under Settings → Game alerts. It applies to every device where you’ve turned alerts on.

Alerts work on desktoptoo — just click “Notify me” and allow notifications; no install needed. On a phone, install the app first (see below) so notifications can reach you.

TIB is a web app you can install to your home screen — it opens full-screen like a native app and is the way to get notifications on a phone. When it’s available you’ll see a “Get the app” prompt at the bottom of the screen.

• Android / desktop (Chrome, Edge): tap Installon the prompt (or use the browser’s install icon in the address bar). One tap and you’re done.
• iPhone / iPad: tap the Share button, then “Add to Home Screen”. This works in Safari, Chrome, and Edge on iOS.

On iPhone, notifications only work once the app has been added to the home screen — and Apple is most reliable when you add it from Safari. Open the installed app to enable alerts.

An account is free and unlocks following, favourites, and fine-grained alert control. You can sign in with a one-time email code or with Google, and optionally set a password.

Your dashboard collects your follows and favourites; Settings is where you set your display name, language, notification preferences (weekly stat digest + game alerts), and manage your sign-in methods and data.

Three controls in the header (and the mobile menu) tailor the site to you:

• Language — switch between English, Dutch, and French. Your choice is remembered.
• Light / dark — the sun/moon toggle switches theme.
• Text size — the site uses large, easy-to-read text by default. Prefer it smaller? Change it under Settings → Text size.

The site pulls in basketball headlines from trusted sources and publishes its own articlesand recaps. Articles are linked to the games, players, and teams they’re about, so a game recap shows up right on that game’s page. Where a broadcaster streams a game, a watch link is matched to the game page automatically.

TIB is built in the open. On the Roadmap you can suggest a feature and vote on ideas others have submitted — it genuinely steers what gets built next. (Submitting and voting needs a free account.)
