London Lions beat Newcastle Eagles 84–76 behind Devante Jones's 16
London Lions held off Newcastle Eagles' late push to secure an eight-point win in a back-and-forth contest that saw 10 lead changes and seven tied scores. Newcastle started sharply, building a 10-point lead by late in the first quarter at 14-24. London responded with a decisive 10-0 run midway through the second to flip the script at 32-31, then extended that momentum to reach half-time ahead 37-40. The third quarter proved tighter still — London edged a 22-16 quarter to lead 59-56 going into the final stretch. Newcastle drew level repeatedly in the fourth, but London pulled clear in the closing minutes, stretching to 80-70 with just 1:29 remaining. Newcastle couldn't claw back the deficit, and London sealed a 84-76 victory. Devante Jones led the Lions with 16 points on 7/13 shooting and four assists, while Thomas Kennedy added 14 points and seven rebounds. Keenan Evans chipped in 13 points on efficient 2/4 shooting and 7/9 from the free-throw line. Tavis Smith's 19 points on 6/15 couldn't rescue Newcastle, who also got 15 from Mitch Clarke and 13 from Trevond Barnes — who drew fouls with precision, hitting 11 of 13 free throws. London host Cheshire Phoenix on Wednesday 23 September.
